ABOUT US
WE ARE A CONFESSIONAL
CHURCH
When Martin Luther stood before Emperor Charles V in Worms, Germany, and was asked to recant the things he had taught and written, he said: "I cannot and will not recant ... Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise. God help me." So, today, in a world where little is certain, we stand on the certain and unshakable foundation of the Prophetic and Apostolic Scriptures since they are the inspired Word of God. And we hold firmly to the Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church because they are a true and faithful exposition of the Scriptures.
WE ARE A SACRAMENTAL CHURCH
God works through means.
He sent the Word-made-flesh, Jesus Christ, to redeem us from sin and death by dying on a tree and by rising again from the dead. Now this Savior comes to us sacramentally, by means of His Word, Baptism, and the Holy Supper of His Body and Blood to grant us the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation in His holy Name. Our life together as God's baptized people is centered around these gifts.
WE ARE A
LITURGICAL
CHURCH
Because God Himself is
present with us in the Church's worship, we strive to reflect that in the
services of God's house. For this reason, we gladly use the traditional rites and ceremonies as they have been handed down to us, not because we feel legalistically bound to them, but
because they help us to worship Christ
in a reverent and dignified manner.
They also serve to preserve us from the "tyranny of personal preference."
